  • Virginia Defers Auto Glass Safety Legislation

    A Virginia House Subcommittee approved a recommendation to defer auto glass safety legislation until next year during a hearing on the bill on January 26. The House Transportation Subcommittee on Highway Policy and Safety considered a bill, HB 699, by Delegate Mark Keam, that would direct the State Police Superintendent to adopt regulations on auto glass replacement safety “consistent with standards established by the Auto Glass Safety Council.” The legislation, similar to a law that was enacted in Maryland last year, was supported by AGSC at the hearing in Richmond. Legislators expressed concerns about the safety issues and approved a recommendation to continue the bill to the 2023 legislative session by voice vote. This will give an opportunity for the State Police and interested stakeholders to further discuss the matter.

  • Virginia Governor Signs Window Film Bill

    The Virginia governor recently signed a window film bill into law.

    The bill, S 1174, “exempts vehicles operated in the performance of private security duties by a licensed security canine handler from limitations on window tinting.”

    The bill was introduced on January 3. It has now passed both the Virginia Senate and House. It was sent to the Virginia governor on February 28 and approved by the governor on March 19.

    A Virginia Senate bill that aims to “exempt vehicles operated in the performance of private security duties by a licensed security canine handler from limitations on window tinting” has been sent to the governor for his signature.

    The bill, S 1174, was introduced on January 3. It has now passed both the Virginia Senate and House. It was sent to the Virginia governor on February 28.

  • Virginia Bill Seeks to Amend State Inspection Sticker Placement

    A bill has been pre-filed in the Virginia state legislature that has some implications for doing business in Virginia.

    The proposed bill, as it has been pre-filed, could change the display location of a vehicle inspection sticker from the windshield to the rear window in the lower corner on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

    AGSC to Offer Training Opportunity in Long Island in March 2017

    Twenty-seven technicians took the certification exam last year in Irvine, Calif.

    The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold a regional training and accreditation program in Long Island, N.Y., in March of next year. The training course and certification exam will be offered twice, once on Thursday, March 30, and again on Friday, March 31, at the Hilton Long Island/Huntington Hotel.

    The program is free for technicians who currently work for an AGSC Registered Member Company. The cost is $49 for technicians who do not work for an AGSC Registered Member Company. The course will be led by Bob Beranek, chair of the AGSC AGRSS™ Standards Committee and president of Auto Glass Consultants.

    The training part of the program will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, and then the exam will be given at 7 p.m. On Friday, March 31, the training course will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the exam will follow at 11:30 a.m.

    “We look forward to seeing a number of technicians in Long Island in March,” says Beranek. “This is a great opportunity for technicians to train and take the certification exam without having to travel a great distance.”

    Additionally the AGSC will offer a training and accreditation program at its headquarters in Stafford, Va., on December 15. The course and exam will be given from 5 to 8 p.m. Stafford is approximately 30 miles south of Washington, D.C., and 45 miles north of Richmond, Va. The AGSC headquarters are located at 20 PGA Drive, Suite 201, Stafford, Va., 22554.

    The Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) regional training and accreditation program in Stafford, Va., in December is approaching quickly. The training course and certification exam will be offered twice—once on Wednesday, December 14, and again on Thursday, December 15, at AGSC headquarters.
