  • New Hampshire Exempts Auto Glass from Claim Adjusters Statute

Legislation has passed in New Hampshire that provides an exemption to the state’s insurance claims adjusters’ statute for persons who solely handle automobile glass claims.

The provision regarding glass claims personnel was added after the New Hampshire Insurance Department introduced legislation by an amendment in the New Hampshire House. The bill, with this new provision, passed the House and the Senate and is awaiting action by the Governor. If enacted into law it will become effective January 1, 2025.

A committee report on the bill stated that the Insurance Department’s rationale for the exemption from state regulation (and thus the requirement that insurers use a licensed adjuster) was that glass claims are “simple claims” and are often automated. In addition, the Insurance Committee testified that consumer protections were provided if an insurer denied a claim and that consumers can reach out to the Insurance Department.
